Windräder an Hochhäusern symbolisieren heute Modernität,

Dynamik und Nachhaltigkeit. Das Bahrain World Trade Center

(BWTC) in Manama war weltweit das erste Hochhaus mit einer

integrierten Windkraftanlage. Die an drei Querstreben montier-

ten Windräder zwischen den 240 Meter hohen, segelförmigen

Türmen haben jeweils einen Durchmesser von 29 Metern. Bis

zu 15 Prozent des anfallenden Energiebedarfs des BWTC sollen

durch die erzeugte Windenergie gedeckt werden; im Jahr ca.

1,2 GWh. Bei voller Auslastung erreichen die aus Dänemark

stammenden Rotoren eine Drehzahl von 38 Umdrehungen in

der Minute. Jede Anlage wiegt 11 Tonnen. Der oberste Rotor

befindet sich in einer Höhe von 133 Metern. Die Errichtung des

2008 eröffneten BWTC hat insgesamt 150 Millionen US Dollar

gekostet.

Wind Turbine

Windmills on skyscrapers symbolize todays modernity, dyna-

mism and sustainability. The Bahrain World Trade Center (BWTC)

in Manama was the world‘s first skyscraper with an integrated

wind turbine. The mounted wind turbines are on three lateral-

ties between the 240 meter high, sail-shaped towers, each with

a diameter of 29 meters. Up to 15 percent of the operational

energy needs of the BWTC are to be covered by wind-gene-

rated energy, about 1.2 GWh per year. At full capacity, rotors

supplied from Denmark, reach a speed of 38 revolutions per

minute. Each unit weighs 11 tons. The top rotor is situated at an

altitude of 133 meters. The establishment opened in 2008, in

total BWTC cost 150 million U.S. dollars.
