H.P.P.W.D. Mud

Das kleine Mud (in ca. 3.900 m Höhe, ca. 250 Dorfbewohner) im

Pin Valley, im indischen Bundesstaat Himachal Pradesh, erscheint

dem Trekker wie eine Oase inmitten der Steinwüste des Himalaya.

Seine fleißigen Dorfbewohner haben im Laufe der Jahre unter-

halb des Dorfes einige Geröllflächen urbar gemacht. Auf terra-

sierten Hängen pflanzen sie in der kurzen Sommerzeit das wichti-

ge Lebensmittel Linsen (Lentil) an.

H.P.P.W.D. Mud

The small village of Mud (about 3,900 m above sea level and

with about 250 villagers) in the Pin Valley, in the Indian state of

Himachal Pradesh, appears to the Trekker as an oasis in the rocky

desert of the Himalayas. Over the years hard-working villagers

have made some scree slopes below the village arable. During

the brief summer period, they plant their main food staple: lentils,

on the terraced hillsides.
