Karneval in Venedig
Alte Dokumente belegen, dass der Carnevale di Venezia bereits
seit 1094 gefeiert wird. Motor der Karnevalentwicklung waren die
italienischen Fürstenhöfe. Die von Jahr zu Jahr prunkvolleren und
aufwändigeren Formen des Karnevals erreichten zu Lebzeiten
Casanovas im 18. Jahrhundert ihre größte Pracht. Aufgrund der
ausufernden Sitten kam vor 200 Jahren der Carnevale di Venezia
unter Herrschaft der Österreicher nahezu vollständig zum Erliegen.
Erst 1980 wurde zu Gunsten der Touristen wieder an die alte Traditi-
on angeknüpft.
Carnevale di Venezia
Ancient documents show that the Carnevale di Venezia has been
celebrated since 1094. The development of the carnival was dri-
ven by the Italian courts. From year to year the carnival became
more magnificent and also more elaborate reaching its greatest
glory in the 18th Century at the time of Casanova. 200 years ago,
under the rule and customs of the Austrians the Carnevale di
Venezia came almost to a complete standstill. It was only in 1980,
to the advantage of the tourists, that the old traditions were resu-
