Windmühlen

Nirgendwo auf der Welt findet man so viele Windmühlen auf

einer Fläche wie auf Mallorca (Ausnahme: Kreta). Der Überliefe-

rung nach sollen die Perser bereits im 7. Jahrhundert Windmühlen

entwickelt und im Mittelmeerraum verbreitet haben. Danach

übernahmen die Araber die praktische Bauweise dieser Mühlen-

art und brachten sie im Zuge der Expansion des Islam Richtung

Westen auf die Iberische Halbinsel. Es wird angenommen, dass

auch auf Mallorca schon vor der christlichen Eroberung der Insel

im Jahre 1229 Windmühlen gestanden haben. Heute findet man

auf Mallorca mehr als 3.300 Windmühlen.

Molino De Viento

Nowhere in the world are there as many windmills as in Majorca

(except Crete). According to tradition, the Persians developed

the first windmills in the 7th Century and spread them throughout

the Mediterranean. Then the Arabs took over the practical design

of this type of mill and with the expansion of Islam brought them

to the west of the Iberian Peninsula. It is believed that before the

Christian conquest of the island, Majorca had 1229 windmills. To-

day there are more than 3,300 windmills in Majorca.
